Which photo captures a summer staycation at Top of the Woods best? It’s so hard to choose just one great picture! 😊
Thanks to all our guests who submitted their pictures to our Summer Camping Guest Photo Competition for 2023. Each year, we choose our favourite picture from guests who stay with us at our eco luxury glamping and camping site in wild west Wales! It's a lovely way for Jon and I to reminisce on the fun and laughter during the summer season.
After much deliberation... we've chosen one winner, who will get a long weekend glamping with us in 2024, and four runners up, who will each receive £150 towards their holiday with us next year.
Enjoy the pics and recapture that summer camping magic!
🏆Winner 2023, 'Safari glamping picnic', Laura Harris
Jon and I love this picture - a 'teddy-kiddie bears' picnic at the new safari lodges. It has friendships, cheeky smiles, and everyone looks like they're having the best time.
That's what we want for all our guests - to come together with friends and family and make happy memories together in beautiful Pembrokeshire. (If that means silly faces, bring it on😉)
🥈Runner Up 'Wheelbarrow camping snooze',
Amy Louise McBride
Kids sleeping in our wheelbarrows are a regular sight all summer. The little ones return from a hectic fun day at the beach or play late with their new friends in the camping meadows and then snooze around the campfire. Who couldn’t fall in love with this pic of a cute tired-out little boy after a fab day with his family camping?
In fact, Amy's family holiday almost ended before it began. Their tent (borrowed from a friend) collapsed on the first day of a 10-day camping holiday. But don't worry, Mum, Dad and the 4 kids spent a couple of nights in one of our barns until they could buy a new tent & enjoy the rest of their camping staycation with us!
Later, Amy emailed me with this take-away from the familes camping holiday with us & how they nearly gave up & went home when the tent collapsed. I said to Amy, she could not give up on her holiday yet ! we hadn't tried everything & we would make it work :-)
“We shouldn’t wait for the storm to pass in life, but that we should all learn how to dance in the rain."
How lovely is that!
🥈Runner Up, 'Camping skills...let me light your fire!', Paul Barrington
What a joyous picture of Paul's partner, as she learns how to light a campfire without matches. Spot their son encouraging her in the background.
The family were taught camping skills by legendary bushcrafter & foraging expert, John Fenna at Top of the Woods. After being with us from our first season - a decade ago - John Fenna is retiring this year. We will greatly miss him.
John has brought much joy, fun, and expertise to our guests by teaching bushcraft skills and how to forage respectfully in nature. Find out what other onsite activities we have for our camping guests.
🥈Runner Up 'Woodland trail at the waterfall', Julee de Jong
We love this photo as it captures the woods from a different perspective and the simple pleasure of spending time in the natural world.
There are 325 acres of Welsh woodland on our doorstep for outdoor adventures, without the need to get in a car. Our camping and glamping guests, walk it, run it or bike it with their family and friends to the mystical waterfall. Or they venture solo to grab some R+R for themselves and the mindful bliss of being in the woods, recharging their batteries.
Who wouldn’t want an invigorating wild swim in the waterfall, a woodland picnic, or experience the calmness of being in nature?
🥈Runner Up - 'Sounds of summer...I will take you on Dad!' Kenna-sian Young
Walking past Soo's shed, listening to the football and the cheers of a goal being scored is the sound of summer for Jon & I. It marks the start and the end of the day - as I open reception, with kids running to play a few games, to my final site round, checking that all our guests are all relaxed and happy on-site.
This picture by Kenna-sian Yong sums up guests having fun and making memories together. New friends are made over that table football, including slam dunks with old pals, competitive challenges between mums and dads and plenty of high-fives, tears, and laughter in-between!
